Mt. Kilimanjaro – Machame Route

Machame Route, 8 Day Trek

Highlights: Summit Mt Kilimanjaro, intermediate trek with mountain tents. Prices start at $1860.

Our Machame Route climb is our most popular. Treks each day are well paced and offer time to enjoy the surroundings and views.  Changes in elevation are gradual and climbers can build their way to the more difficult days at the end. An additional day staying at Karanga Valley Camp is always recommended to increase the chance of success in reaching the summit.

US Climbers:  This is highly recommended as travel to East Africa is anywhere between 24 and 32 hours.

Shared climb is not guaranteed to have other participants included in the program.  Both shared and private basis climb programs use shared campsites on the mountain and it is likely that there will be other climbers on the same itinerary throughout the climb.  However, on private basis, you have your own mountain guide. All transfers are on a shared basis.  Sole climbers must book on private basis.

†Suggested tip amount ($40 per person per day) is a recommendation only of the amount each climber should budget to pay the climb staff.  This is provided for information only and is not included in the trip price, nor is it paid to us.  Actual tips are at the climbers’ discretion.

Single Supplement on this climb applies only to the nights at the base hotel. Alpine huts on the mountain feature dormitory type accommodation and single occupancy is not possible.

An extra night on the mountain can be added between days 4 and 5.  This day remains at Karanga Valley Camp.

Mount KilimanjaroTanzania is home to Africa’s highest mountain – Mount Kilimanjaro. The snowy peaks of the mountain have given inspiration and challenge to creative minds and active adventurers for more than a century.

At 19,380 feet, it is possible to climb the mountain without oxygen. The routes to the summit, though challenging, do not require technical climbing skills and equipment such as ropes and pitons. A sturdy hiking stick, good boots and warm clothing should be enough for anyone who is in sound physical condition. Most climbers do feel the affects of the altitude and find the climb more challenging than they expected. However, those that reach the summit consider this among their lifetime achievements.About our Mount Kilimanjaro ClimbsOur knowledge of climbing the mountains of East Africa is equal only to the service that our climbers receive during their adventure. We provide complete information packets to our agents so that they will be able to become experts on climbing expeditions. These include:

  •  How to physically prepare for your climb
  • Pre departure checklists with packing information and important travel tips
  • Detailed day by day itineraries of what can be expected during the climb

Our climbs all operate on a private basis. We don’t mix people of different abilities on the same trip leaving some struggling to keep up and others hindered in their progress. Each booking, be it a single traveler or group of twenty, is provided with their own crew including professional mountain guides, porters and a cook. Our climbs also include all transfers starting and ending at Kilimanjaro International Airport and accommodation at the base hotel.

US Climbers: It is highly recommended to add an extra night on the front end of the expedition as travel to East Africa is anywhere between 24 and 32 hours. Excursions can be added on the front end if so desired.
